Buntot Palos Falls
Pangil, Laguna (July 1998)a.k.a "Hidden Falls"

Laguna is blessed with a lot of beautiful waterfalls such as the Pagsanjan Falls in Pagsanjan, the Imelda or Taytay Falls in Majayjay, the Twin Falls in Cavinti, the 5 water falls of Famy, the Hidden Valley in Alaminos, and other still unexplored water falls by people other than the local residents. Buntot Palos is one of the lesser known water falls except in the mountaineering community that is why it might have also been called the Hidden Falls.

The place is accessible by a 2-3 hour hike via a trail, which gets too muddy when it rains particularly during the rainy season. That is why some commented that the trek towards the waterfalls is not enjoyable. This accumulation of mud on pot holes are due to the marks left by logs being drawn by carabaos of the local farmers and loggers as well as horses, which is the usual mode of transportation by the locals. More often than that, the dung of the horses and carabaos mixes with the mud. The campsite is also not that ideal being small and significantly inclined. But the basin of the waterfalls is big and deep for swimmers to enjoy, though those who doesn’t know how to swim sees it otherwise- having no shallow place to swim and play around. If you are the more adventurous type, you can camp on a shallow cave beneath the cascading waterfalls.

The hidden falls is near the Famy waterfalls thereby the way to go here is the same way as going to Famy. From Crossing EDSA Central in Mandaluyong, you can ride jeeps bound for Siniloan Laguna. From Siniloan, you can ask the tricycle drivers to take you to "Buntot Palos" in Barangay Balian, Pangil, Laguna. Most of them knows the place since it is also becoming a popular destination. From the jump-off point, the trail can be easily followed to reach the final destination, which is the Buntot Palos waterfalls.

Water source are available on the waterfalls itself but it is suggested to treat the water if you will be using it as drinking water. No permits are required. Trails are muddy so bring extra clothes or slippers/ socks.

Nice to know that there some like you who really appriciate nature trips like this and sharing the experience to others....people like you and your collegues belongs to a special kind of class who are evolved....you can see and recognize them by the way they define the word.."PLEASURE"....ibig sabihin: hindi mababaw ang trip ......malawak ang pananaw......parang yung feeling mo pagumabot ka na sa Top of the Mountain kita mong lahat ng nasa ilalim kita mong lahat yung nangyayari sa ibaba, kita mo kung saan ka nakatayo right that very moment,...lahat ng bagay bigla mong nakikita sa kakaibang perpective....then you wish all your best friends were there to share the feelings with you.
Ang sarap ng pakiramdam di ba? tangal lahat ng pagod mo....When I first made my trekking in Nepal and Tibet some years ago ganyan ang naramdaman ko...from that time on nabago na ang perspedtive ko sa buhay...mas gumanda ang pananaw ko sa lahat......I wish you and your friends more power.

Thank you so much sir for that inspiring words....yes. mountaineering changes our way of life, the way how we see things and how to appreciate our lives more and better, words cannot describe ones feeling when your up there. Mountaineering can drain ones energy but it can reflenish our soul and body one's we achieve our objective. Thanks for the comment sir..really appreciate it...especially for someone who knows.
